If you’re planning to bring on new employees (either casual, part-time, or full-time), it’s important to make sure your tax and super obligations are in order before they start.

Here are a few key updates and reminders for 2025:

1. Withhold the Right Amount of Tax

When hiring new staff, you’ll need to withhold the correct amount of tax (PAYG) from their wages.
Make sure your payroll system is updated with the latest ATO tax tables for 2025–26, and that each employee completes a Tax File Number (TFN) declaration.

Tip: Your TaxAssist Accountant can help you review your payroll setup and confirm you’re calculating PAYG withholding accurately to avoid end-of-year tax issues for both you and your employees.

2. Pay Superannuation Guarantee (SG) at the New Rate

The Superannuation Guarantee (SG) rate increased to 11.5% on 1 July 2025.
You must pay super contributions for all eligible employees to their nominated funds by the quarterly due dates to avoid the Superannuation Guarantee Charge (SGC).

Next SG payment due date: 28 January 2026 (for the October–December quarter).

Tip: If you’re unsure who qualifies for super, or how to calculate contributions correctly, your TaxAssist Accountant can help you set up automated reminders and ensure payments are made on time.

3. Report Through Single Touch Payroll (STP)

All employers must report employee payments and super information through Single Touch Payroll (STP Phase 2).
If you’ve recently hired new employees, make sure they’re included in your STP-enabled software and that details such as pay codes and leave entitlements are correctly mapped.

Tip: Our team can review your STP setup to ensure your reporting remains compliant with the latest ATO standards.
