It is essential for all employers to review their payroll systems to ensure the correct rates and Awards are applied following the wage increases from 1 July 2025.
Employers should be aware that the Fair Work Commission can impose fines of up to $9,390 per breach if wages are incorrectly calculated.
What Are the New Minimum Wages?
The National Minimum Wage applies to workers not covered by an Award or registered agreement.
From 1 July 2025, the rate will increase to $24.95 per hour ($948.00 per week for a full-time employee working a standard 38-hour week).
For casuals, the minimum wage, including the 25% casual loading, will be $31.19 per hour.
For workers under an Award, adult minimum award wages will increase by 3.5%, applied from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2025. Proportionate increases will apply to junior workers, apprentices, and supported wages.
Superannuation Guarantee Increase
The Superannuation Guarantee rate will increase from 11.5% to 12% on 1 July 2025.
If your employment agreements pay employees on a ‘total remuneration’ basis (base plus SG and allowances), take-home pay may reduce by 0.5% as a greater percentage is directed to super.
If employees are paid a rate plus superannuation, take-home pay will remain the same, and the 0.5% increase will be added to their super payments.
